Gold is naturally yellow and is always alloyed with other metals to enhance its strength, durability, and colour. White gold, for example, begins as yellow gold and is alloyed with metals such as nickel, palladium, silver, zinc, or platinum to achieve a silvery hue.

To achieve its signature high-gloss finish, white gold is plated with rhodium—a precious metal from the platinum family. Over time, as rhodium wears, a subtle yellow tint may appear, and re-plating is recommended to restore its lustre. For optimal shine, we suggest having white gold and sterling silver pieces rhodium-plated annually.

Sterling silver is composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% alloy metals, typically copper, to enhance strength and durability. Pure silver (99.9%) is too soft for everyday jewellery, making sterling silver the ideal choice for both elegance and resilience. Look for the S925 or SS hallmark as a mark of authenticity.
